THE SOLUTION STARTS WITH US.

  • by

Today, the Autalavou Metotisi Matafele joined a national conversation under the Samoa Hope – Say No to Drugs and Violence Campaign, supported through the joint National Taskforce on Drugs and Violence, bringing together the Ministry of Police and Prisons, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Family and Social Affairs.

At the heart of today’s talanoa was the Samoan concept of Fofō Alamea — the understanding that the remedy must also come from within.

If we are serious about preventing drugs and violence, the solution cannot come from Government alone. It must grow from within our families, churches, youth groups and communities.

Young people heard directly about the serious consequences drugs and violence can have on:

Mental health. Physical health. Family relationships. Education. Employment opportunities. Future choices.

The message was also clear:

Awareness must lead to action.

Know the signs.

Know where support is available.

Speak up early.

Look out for one another.

And above all:

KNOW THE CONSEQUENCES BEFORE YOU CHOOSE.

Prevention is more than telling a young person to “Say No.” It is making sure they understand the risks, know where to turn, feel supported, and are equipped to make decisions that protect their future.

From Aai o Niue EFKS Youth Group to Autalavou Metotisi Matafele, the Samoa Hope campaign continues to take prevention directly into the spaces where our young people live, worship, learn and belong.

One Government effort. One community response. One shared responsibility.

No to Drugs. No to Violence. Yes to Hope.
